Like a lot of people, I love a bit of chocolate spread. As a child, we smeared it on warm toast until it melted. Surprisingly, I have never used chocolate spread in any other way or with any other ingredient. What I never realised until recently, is that chocolate spread is a very versatile ingredient and can be used in lots of different ways with lots of different foods. So I have decided to explore…..

Macabella Cocoa and Macadamia Spread

A few weeks ago, I got an opportunity to work with a great new product which has just recently launched in the UK. The product is Macabella Cocoa and Macadamia Spread. This product is currently Australia’s 2016 Product of the Year in the spreads section.  The UK is only just discovering this thanks to the launch of Macabella Cocoa & Macademia Spread, which you can now buy in Sainsburys.

This is the first of its kind in the UK. Macabella is a macadamia nut infused cocoa spread made with the best of ingredients. With a minimum 19.5% macadamias in every jar, it’s got the highest percentage of nuts in a spread on the market. With all ingredients sustainably sourced and guaranteed, Macabella is a quality product and at £3.00 a jar, it’s also a bargain! So I am going to use this as my main chocolate spread source for my recipe ideas!

My Challenge

I am going to find 5 interesting recipes using chocolate spread, recipes which are simple and easy to make. I’m going to do 5 blogs, 5 recipes/ideas to get those taste buds flowing and explore some fun ways to use chocolate spread.

1 – Chocolate, Crispy Bacon and Banana Toastie (seriously!)

Okay, so this is honestly a great sandwich. It’s different but if you have a sweet tooth, then this is for you! I love the combo of banana and chocolate spread, but throw in a bit of crispy bacon to the mix and it brings a whole new dimension to your toastie!

Ingredients:

1 x Macabella Crunch – I am using this spread as it is made with 19.5% macadamia nuts which also adds to this interesting combo.

1 x banana

4 – 5 pieces of crispy bacon (cooked)

2 slices of thick bloomer bread

Method:

1 – Cook your bacon first and allow to cool.

2 – Smear the Macabella Crunch over the bread

3 – Slice the banana’s on top

4 –  Add bacon

5 – Put second slice on top and put in your sandwich toaster (or George Foreman grill thing!)

6 – Give it about 5 minutes, or until the bread is browning and enjoy!
